Saugeen Conservation (SVCA) operates out of Formosa, Ontario and is one of 36 Conservation Authorities in the Province of Ontario. SVCA is a community-based environmental agency which owns and manages 8,498 hectares (21,000 acres) within the watersheds of the Saugeen, Penetangore, and Pine Rivers, as well as multiple watercourses along the Lake Huron shoreline. For 70 years, the SVCA has been offering local renewable natural resource programs, education, services, and recreation opportunities to its watershed municipalities and landowners. The annual operating budget is approximately $3.5 million.

Position Overview:

Saugeen Conservation is recruiting a General Manager/Secretary-Treasurer. This position directs all administration, financial, technical, and field operations.  This position reports to the Chair, Vice-Chairs and Directors of the SVCA. The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain an effective program designed to further the conservation, restoration, development, and management of the natural resources of the watershed(s) of SVCA.


  • Applicants must have graduated with an honours degree in a natural resource management discipline or other related field, or have commensurate experience.
  • They must possess extensive knowledge on the principles and practices of natural resource management on a watershed basis and have widespread knowledge of provincial, municipal, county, and conservation authority legislation and regulations.
  • The successful applicant must have detailed knowledge of conservation authority programs and finances. Skills include demonstrated administration experience and ability; organizational, managerial, and staff development skills, strong communication abilities as well as tact, and good judgement.
  • The successful applicant must also maintain a good working relationship with SVCA Directors, elected representatives, municipal and county staff, and provincial ministries.
  • They must possess initiative, strong decision making and planning skills, a clear customer service orientation, and have the ability to direct SVCA’s entire program operation.
  • The successful applicant must also have a valid Ontario Class “G” Drivers Licence.
