Beaverdale Bog

The Beaverdale Bog is located in the northeast part of the watershed, in the headwaters of the Rocky Saugeen River. Please see our property map for location.

This is a classic example of a northern boreal black spruce and sphagnum bog, made rare by the fact that it is located in southern Ontario.

Somehow when the glaciers melted, a saucer lake was left behind. Over the 10,000 years since then, it has slowly filled in with a treasure trove of northern bog flowers, such as sundews, pitcher plants and several species of orchids.

Saugeen Conservation owns 131 ha (325 acres) of this significant area. Beaverdale is classified as a Class 3 wetland.
