Two New Education Programs Announced by Saugeen Conservation

The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) has announced the development of two new education programs in response to the current Covid-19 Pandemic. These programs are designed to offer in-person conservation education programing at Sulphur Spring Conservation Area for students learning through home-school and virtual education, outside the classroom.

The first, “Fall Wild Encounters Nature Day Camp and Outdoor School” will be for young people aged 5 to 8 and 9 to 12 for full or half days this fall. Group sizes will be limited to 14 to adhere to current Grey Bruce Health Unit Covid-19 Guidelines. This program will feature hands-on, curriculum-based programming investigations into our natural resources, outdoors. Please follow this link for more information.

The second, “Borrow an Outdoor Educator” will be for families and groups in the same “bubble” to hire our outdoor educator for a half day to teach a program of their choice. Again, group sizes will be limited to 14, but will also include adults. More information about this exciting new venture can be found at this link.

Saugeen Conservation’s education programming typically reaches over 11,000 young people annually. “We recognize a need for young people to learn about and make a connection with our natural environment especially in these times of distancing and stressing about our health. Getting outdoors to explore and get involved in hands-on learning can help relieve some of that stress and still follow curriculum-based learning opportunities” said Nancy Griffin, Conservation Education Coordinator. “We look forward to returning to our regular programming when field trips are allowed for again for in-school students.”
