The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority invites applications for the full-time permanent position of Forestry Technician to fill a vacancy. The position is responsible for recommending and implementing approved forest management activities on Authority properties and private lands. The individual will report to the Coordinator, Forestry.


  • Conducts forest resource inventory field work and compiles results into operating plans and management plans.
  • Coordinates and maintains a forest property database including the verification of property tax assessment values.
  • Creates and implements silvicultural prescriptions for forest operations on authority lands.
  • Coordinates and supervises forest harvest operations on authority lands and private lands as required.
  • Creates work schedule.
  • Plants and supervises the planting of landscape and seedling stock.
  • Provides landowner service with regard to the Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program.
  • Undertakes the technical aspects of assisting in the delivery and promotion of the Forestry Program.
  • Provides forestry expertise to other Authority departments as required.
  • Undertakes performance evaluations of staff under his/her supervision.
  • Responsible to work safely in compliance with all SVCA Health & Safety Policies.
  • Other duties as assigned appropriate to the responsibilities of the position.


  • Diploma in Forestry
  • At least two years of field experience as a Forestry Technician
  • Associate Professional Forester status with the Ontario Professional Foresters Association would be an asset
  • Ontario Tree Marking Certification
  • Licensed Pesticide Exterminator
  • A sound knowledge of forest management practices
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • A working knowledge of word processing and computerized mapping programs
  • Managed Forest Tax Incentive Plan Approver status
  • Certified Chainsaw Operator
  • Must be able to undertake field work as required under varying terrains and weather conditions
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License

Salary: Starting at $52,455 per annum 37.5 hour work week
